Vengaboys

Vengaboys is a Eurodance pop group based in the Netherlands. The brainchild of two Dutch producers Wessel van Diepen and Dennis van den Driesschen (Danski and Delmundo), they enjoyed commercial success in the late-1990s and early-2000s. They are best known for their two UK number one singles, "Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!!" and "We're Going to Ibiza." They have sold an estimated 15 million records worldwide.
Danski, Delmundo and keyboard player Scott Bailey recruited four dancers to form a group: Kim Sasabone, Denise van Rijswijk, Robin Pors, and Roy den Burger. In 1997, the name Vengaboys was thought up during a recording session for another of Danski's projects Nakatomi, as he kept repeating the word "venga" (Spanish for "come on").

After two small hits with "Parada De Tettas" and "To Brazil", they scored a number 4 hit in the UK with "Up & Down" in November 1998. The follow-up "We Like to Party" peaked at number 3, and also reached number 26 on the Billboard Hot 100. In June 1999, they scored their first number 1 with "Boom Boom Boom Boom", when it topped the charts in both the UK and the Netherlands. "We Like to Party" is used in a Six Flags ad campaign featuring an old man dancing to the tune and picking up passengers.

"We're Going to Ibiza", a reworking of Typically Tropical's 1975 number 1 hit, also reached the top slot in September 1999. Their debut LP The Party Album peaked at number 86 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and was certified gold (500,000 units).

Shortly before the release of their second album, Robin Pors left the group and was replaced by Yorick Bakker. More UK top 10 hits followed: "Kiss (When the Sun Don't Shine)", "Shalala Lala" and "Uncle John from Jamaica". For their fourth single the group got a fifth member, the computer-animated Cheekah. The single "Cheekah Bow Bow (That Computer Song)" wasn't quite a hit like their previous singles. They released their single "Forever as One" in February 2001 and the group temporarily disbanded.

In 2007 they returned to the club scene, with new member Donny Latupeirissa replacing Roy den Burger. They have most recently been touring university student union clubs in the UK and Ireland. It has been rumored that they will be releasing a new single called "Partylife" later in 2008, but this has not been officially confirmed. Considering it is now 2009, one can only assume this was in fact a rumor.
